Why tallow soap?

The soap the modern industry quietly replaced.

Tallow soap was the standard for centuries. Then the industry switched to petroleum-based detergent bars, cheaper, easier to mass-produce, and much harder on your skin.

Skin-compatible fats
Beef tallow's fatty acid profile closely mirrors human sebum so instead of stripping your skin's natural oils like synthetic detergents, it cleanses while maintaining your skin's barrier.
Rich creamy lather
The combination of tallow, olive oil, and coconut oil produces a dense, moisturizing lather that feels luxurious without foaming agents, sulfates, or anything synthetic.
Vitamins A, D, E & K
Grass-fed tallow is naturally rich in fat-soluble vitamins that nourish skin at the cellular level. These are removed from industrially processed soaps and replaced with synthetic additives.
Thousands of years old
Tallow soap has been made the same way for millennia. The industry replaced it with petroleum-derived detergent bars in the 20th century and called them 'beauty bars' because they legally couldn't call them soap.
How it's made

Handmade the right way.

01
Render the tallow
We start with grass-fed, grass-finished beef fat from a local regenerative farm. Rendered low and slow using traditional methods to preserve its natural nutrients.
02
Blend the oils
Tallow is combined with saponified olive oil and coconut oil — each contributing its own properties to the final bar's lather, hardness, and skin feel.
03
Hand-pour & cut
Every bar is hand-poured and hand-cut in small batches. No machines, no shortcuts. Essential oils are added at this stage to scented varieties.
04
Cure for 28 days
Each bar is cured for a full 28 days, longer than most commercial soap. This produces a harder, longer-lasting bar with a gentler, more balanced pH.
What's inside

Every ingredient, explained.

Three saponified oils form the base. Certified organic essential oils add scent. That's the entire list.

Base · Saponified
Grass-fed Tallow
Primary ingredient
The foundation of every bar. Saponified (turned into soap through reaction with lye) from 100% grass-fed beef fat. Retains vitamins A, D, E, and K and produces a dense, skin-compatible lather.
Conditioning · Saponified
Olive Oil
Long, slow cure
Saponified olive oil is one of the oldest soap ingredients in history. It produces a creamy, conditioning lather, makes the bar gentle enough for sensitive skin, and contributes to a long, slow cure.
Lather · Saponified
Coconut Oil
Rich bubbles
Saponified coconut oil creates the rich, cleansing bubbles that give the bar its satisfying lather. Also contributes hardness helping each bar last longer than softer soap formulas.
Scent · Certified Organic
Essential Oils
Scented bars only
Scented bars use only certified organic essential oils, no synthetic fragrance. Each scent is chosen to complement the nourishing base rather than mask it.
That's it
Nothing else.
No synthetics
No preservatives. No sulfates. No detergents. No synthetic fragrance. No petroleum derivatives. The ingredient list is short because it's supposed to be. That's the whole point.

How to use

Just like soap. But better.

01
Lather with warm water
Work the bar between your hands or onto a washcloth with warm water. The lather will feel creamier and denser than synthetic soaps, that's the tallow and olive oil.
02
Use on face, body & hair
Tallow soap is gentle enough for your face and conditioning enough for your hair. Many customers replace their entire shower routine with a single bar.
03
Store on a draining rack
Keep the bar dry between uses on a well-draining soap dish. A bar that stays dry between washes will last significantly longer, sometimes 2–3 months with daily use.
Questions

Frequently asked

Can I use this on my face? +

Yes,and many of our customers do exclusively. Tallow's fatty acid profile is very close to human sebum, so it cleanses without stripping the skin's natural oils. If you have sensitive or acne-prone skin, we recommend the Belle Plaine (unscented) bar to start, since essential oils can occasionally irritate reactive skin.

Why does it feel different from my regular soap? +

Most commercial 'soap' bars are technically synthetic detergent bars, the glycerin is removed and sold separately, leaving a drying bar that strips your skin. Real tallow soap retains its naturally occurring glycerin and fat-soluble vitamins. The creamier feel, the way your skin doesn't feel tight after washing, that's what soap is supposed to feel like.

Which scent should I choose? +

Belle Plaine is unscented, ideal for sensitive skin or those who prefer no fragrance. Seychelles (eucalyptus and lemongrass) is fresh and clean, the most versatile. Aberdeen (scotch pine and orange) is earthy and grounding,a woodland morning in a bar. Ipanema (lemongrass, rosemary, tea tree, cinnamon, clove) is the most complex and energizing, it brings the energy of a Rio beach town.

How long will one bar last? +

With daily use and a draining soap dish, most customers get 6–10 weeks from a single bar. The biggest factor is keeping it dry between uses.

"I didn't think a bar of soap could change my skin. Two weeks in and my face is softer than it's been in years. I'll never go back to commercial soap."

"Aberdeen smells like the best version of being outside. My husband and I both use it. The lather is incredibly rich — nothing like what I expected from a 'natural' soap."

"Ipanema is absolutely wild in the best possible way. Complex, warm, fresh all at once. And my skin feels genuinely nourished after every wash, not just clean."
